The AIMA Eastern Region Meet, scheduled for 5th and 6th October 2024 at the prestigious Sarat Sadan Hall in Kolkata, is set to be a landmark event for the Malayalee community. This gathering will bring together all National Leaders of AIMA and five representatives from each of the 10 state units in the Eastern region to participate in discussions and deliberations on key issues affecting our community.

Day 1: 5th October 2024

1. Inaugural Ceremony

Chief Guest: His Excellency, Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal

The program will commence with a grand inaugural ceremony, graced by His Excellency, Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, who will honor us with his presence as the Chief Guest. The ceremony will include the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address by the AIMA President.

2. Keynote Address by Chief Guest

In a compelling story of swift action and community collaboration, 13-year-old Tasmeeth Tamsum, originally from Assam and residing in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, was found safe after a tense 37-hour search. The successful recovery of this young girl highlights the extraordinary efforts of the All India Malayalee Association (AIMA) Andhra Pradesh team, the Quick Response Team (QRT), and other key individuals and associations in Vishakhapatnam.

The Disappearance

The incident began when Tasmeeth left her home following a family quarrel. After an argument with her sisters and subsequent scolding from her parents, she vanished, leaving her family in a state of panic. Her parents, Anwar Hussain and his wife, immediately reported her missing to the Kazhakkoottam police, sparking a search that would extend across state borders.

The Search and a Crucial Breakthrough

As the search efforts intensified, the involvement of the AIMA Andhra Pradesh team and the AIMA Quick Response Team (QRT) proved to be crucial. The QRT, known for its rapid and efficient action in emergency situations, immediately mobilized upon receiving the report of Tasmeeth’s disappearance.

Led by Shri N. N. Pillai, President of AIMA Andhra Pradesh, and supported by Shri Sunilkumar, PRO AIMA, along with other dedicated members, the team coordinated closely with local authorities and the Malayalee associations in Vishakhapatnam. Their vigilance and quick thinking played a pivotal role in the breakthrough that led to Tasmeeth’s recovery.

A Community’s Collective Effort

The turning point in the search came when a member of the Malayalee association, traveling on the Tambaram Express from Visakhapatnam, noticed a young girl fitting Tasmeeth’s description asleep in the general compartment. Recognizing the importance of this sighting, the association member promptly alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The RPF, acting on the tip, quickly took Tasmeeth into custody, ensuring her safety.

The involvement of the AIMA QRT, alongside the Andhra Pradesh team and local Malayalee associations, including the efforts of Shri Rajeev S. Pillai, Shri Anil Kumar, ARG. Unnithan, K. Haridas, K. Ganesan, Srinivasan, Shaji, Febin, and Mashood from Malabar Gold, was instrumental in the coordinated efforts that led to the successful identification and recovery of the child. Their combined efforts ensured that the search concluded positively, bringing much-needed relief to her family.

Safe and Sound

After being located, it was clear that Tasmeeth was exhausted, having not eaten for two days, but she was otherwise unharmed. The Kazhakkoottam police, led by a female Sub-Inspector, swiftly traveled to Visakhapatnam to bring her back to Kerala. Tasmeeth will soon be presented before a local magistrate, after which she will be reunited with her family.

This incident is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together.
