The mission is an emblem of cultural continuity, striving to preserve linguistic heritage among newer generations of Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs).

Core Objectives of Malayalam Mission:

  • To promote learning and appreciation of the Malayalam language among the youth living abroad or outside Kerala.
  • To establish global learning centers in collaboration with local Malayalee organizations.
  • To offer a comprehensive curriculum focused on language, literature, and Kerala’s rich cultural heritage.
  • To provide free online learning opportunities, such as the Bhoomi Malayalam MOOC, making learning accessible and inclusive.
  • To foster cultural pride and continuity, creating a lifelong emotional connection with the roots.

Funded and supported by the Department of Culture, Government of Kerala, the Malayalam Mission is today a global movement with study centers spanning multiple continents.

Conclusion: A Step Towards Cultural Revival

Akshara Kairali Praveshanolsavam 2025 is not just an event — it is a cultural statement. It stands as a testament to the enduring relevance of mother tongue and native traditions in an increasingly globalized world. Through the collective efforts of MWS Bhiwadi, Malayalam Mission, and AIMA, this celebration rekindles the flame of Malayalam among the younger generation and reinforces the identity of the diaspora.

Happy Birthday to Shri Gokulam Gopalan: The Visionary Behind a South Indian Business Empire

Introduction: A Legend Shaped by Grit and Vision

Ambalathil Meethal Gopalan—widely recognized as Gokulam Gopalan—is a name that reverberates across South India’s business, cinema, and social service landscapes. From humble beginnings in a remote Kerala village to building one of India’s most influential business conglomerates, Gokulam Gopalan is a remarkable example of determination, foresight, and versatility. Founder and Chairman of the Sree Gokulam Group of Companies, his influence stretches across finance, education, healthcare, hospitality, media, real estate, sports, and entertainment.

He is not only a successful industrialist but also a respected film producer, actor, philanthropist, and community leader, holding several prestigious titles and responsibilities in national and regional organizations.

From Humble Roots to Grand Success: The Early Life of a Titan

Born in 1944 in the small village of Koorikkilad near Vadakara, Kerala, Gokulam Gopalan came from a modest background. The son of Chathu and Mathu, he grew up in a financially constrained environment. He completed his school education at B.E.M High School, Vadakara, followed by Pre-University studies at Brennen College, Thalassery. He later obtained a B.Sc. in Mathematics from Government College, Madappally.

Like many youth from Kerala, he moved to Chennai in search of employment. There, with the help of a well-wisher, he landed a job as a medical representative. Yet, financial struggles persisted. Observing that chit-fund operations (a popular community finance model in Kerala) were missing in Chennai, he saw an opportunity—and seized it.

The Birth of an Empire: Sree Gokulam Chits & Finance

In 1968, with just ten members contributing ₹100 each, Gokulam Gopalan launched Sree Gokulam Chits and Finance Pvt. Ltd. in Mylapore, Chennai. The first chit was ₹60. That small idea grew steadily through discipline and trust, and eventually blossomed into one of India’s largest chit and finance companies, with:

  • Over 480 branches across India
  • An annual turnover exceeding ₹1000 crores
  • A brand synonymous with credibility and reliability in finance

From this one venture, Gopalan began to diversify his interests into various sectors, creating the now-massive Sree Gokulam Group.

A Film Enthusiast Turned Cinema Mogul

Gopalan’s entry into the world of cinema marked a new era for Malayalam and Tamil films. As founder of Sree Gokulam Movies, he produced and distributed numerous landmark films. These include:

Production Highlights

  • Keralavarma Pazhassi Raja
  • Kammarasambhavam
  • Pathonpatham Noottandu
  • Clint
  • Pakalum Paathiraavum

Distribution Milestones

  • Jailer (Tamil)
  • Jawan (Hindi)
  • Leo (Tamil)
  • Indian 2 (Tamil)
  • Ponniyin Selvan I & II (Tamil)

His most celebrated success came in 2024 with the Malayalam blockbuster “Manjummel Boys”, which shattered all previous records to become the first Malayalam film to gross over ₹200 crores, setting:

  • The highest Malayalam box office collection ever
  • The highest overseas collection for a Malayalam film
  • One of the top Indian grossers of the year

Television: Reinventing Malayalam Broadcast Media

A silent revolution was brought about by Gokulam Gopalan in Malayalam media through:

  • Flowers TV – Known for its high-quality content and wide family audience
  • 24 News – A credible and fast-growing Malayalam news channel

These channels have reshaped the Malayalam broadcast industry and continue to dominate viewership across categories.

Passion for Sports: Gokulam Kerala FC

A proud owner of Gokulam Kerala Football Club, Gopalan extended his influence into Indian sports. Based in Kozhikode, Kerala, the club is known for its exceptional performances in national tournaments like the I-League, both in men’s and women’s categories.

Under his leadership:

  • The men’s team has emerged as title contenders
  • The women’s team has gained national recognition for consistent high-level performances

His contribution has not just been financial—he has helped revive the football spirit in Kerala.

V.S. Achuthanandan (1923–2025): A Century of Struggle, Service, and Socialism

Introduction: The Last Comrade of His Kind

In an era of fleeting political ideologies and transactional leadership, Velikkakathu Sankaran Achuthanandan, or V.S., stood as a resolute pillar of integrity, ideology, and the people’s cause. A revolutionary who never compromised, a democrat within a cadre, and a crusader of the oppressed — V.S. Achuthanandan was more than just Kerala’s former Chief Minister; he was the conscience of the Left movement in India. His passing on 21 July 2025, at the age of 101, marked the end of an epoch in Kerala’s political history.

A Humble Beginning in Punnapra

Born on 20 October 1923 in Punnapra, a coastal village in Alappuzha district, Travancore, V.S. came from a modest background. Orphaned by the age of 11, he discontinued education after the 7th standard and began working in a tailoring shop and later in a coir factory. These early hardships sharpened his understanding of labor exploitation and seeded his political awakening.

His early exposure to trade union movements eventually led him to join the State Congress in 1938, followed by the Communist Party of India (CPI) in 1940. That single decision would define the next 85 years of his life — in struggle, imprisonment, underground resistance, and ultimately governance.

Forging the Left Movement in Kerala

Achuthanandan’s contributions to the Left movement in Kerala were foundational. In 1964, he was among the key leaders who split from the CPI to form the Communist Party of India (Marxist). As a committed Marxist-Leninist, VS spent over five years in jail and more than four years underground, facing repression from the state but never compromising his ideology.

He played a critical role in land reform movements, leading the 1970 Alappuzha Declaration that demanded the implementation of land redistribution laws. His command over cadre and mass appeal made him a natural leader. By the 1980s, he was Secretary of the Kerala CPI(M) State Committee, and in 1985, he was inducted into the Politburo.

The Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri V.S. Achuthanandan calling on the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, in New Delhi on March 08, 2008.

Voice of the People — The Eternal Opposition Leader

Between 1991 and 2006, V.S. served as the Leader of the Opposition for 15 years, making him the longest-serving opposition leader in the Kerala Assembly. His tenure was marked by fearless criticism of corruption, advocacy for farmers and workers, and a relentless fight against real estate, liquor, and lottery mafias.

VS functioned not just as a critic of the ruling front but also as a guardian of public morality in the legislature. His presence in the Assembly was a constant reminder that politics, when driven by values, could remain unsullied even amid power struggles.

Chief Ministership (2006–2011) — Governance with Grit

At the age of 82, in what became a historic political comeback, V.S. Achuthanandan was sworn in as Kerala’s 11th Chief Minister in May 2006 after a sweeping electoral victory in Malampuzha.

Key Initiatives as CM:

  • Munnar Demolition Drive: Reclaimed illegally encroached government land, striking at the heart of land mafia operations.
  • Kochi MG Road Clearance: Cleared decades of encroachments to restore public space.
  • Anti-Piracy and Anti-Lottery Operations: VS was unflinching in his war on syndicates that thrived on illegal trade.
  • Action Against Corruption: Instrumental in the conviction of former minister R. Balakrishna Pillai.
  • Free Software in Education: A visionary move to integrate open-source software into the school curriculum, drawing global praise.

Despite intra-party resistance, he led with unwavering clarity, often taking stances that contradicted his own party leadership — earning respect across the political spectrum.

Building Kerala — Development with a Human Face

Under his leadership, Kerala saw significant infrastructure and technological advancement:

  • Vallarpadam Container Terminal: India’s first international transshipment terminal.
  • Kannur International Airport: Foundation laid under his leadership.
  • Infoparks and Technoparks: Major expansions in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Cherthala to boost IT employment.
  • Kochi Metro: The Achuthanandan cabinet gave its initial nod to Kerala’s flagship metro project.
  • Chamravattom Regulator-cum-Bridge and Ashtamudi Tourism Development: Enhanced regional connectivity and tourism.

The Final Phase of Public Life

Even after stepping down as CM, VS remained active in public life. In 2016, he was appointed as Chairman of Kerala’s Administrative Reforms Commission, holding cabinet rank until 2021. He continued to advocate for transparent governance and clean administration.

VS turned 100 in October 2023, a milestone few politicians ever reach, either in years or in relevance. Even during his final years, he remained a powerful symbol of honesty and public accountability.

A Cultural and Political Icon

Beyond politics, VS became a cultural symbol in Kerala:

  • Inspired characters in Malayalam cinema (Aayudham, August 15, IG).
  • Appeared as himself in the film Campus Diary (2016), fighting corporate exploitation.
  • Authored books including Samaram Thanne Jeevitham, Janapaksham, and Irakal Vettayadappedumbol, giving insights into his ideology and battles.

His life became a textbook for future activists and scholars of political science.

Personal Life: A Quiet Family Man

Despite his fierce public persona, VS led a quiet family life. He was married to K. Vasumathy and had two children — daughter V.V. Asha and son V.A. Arun Kumar. Known for his frugality and simplicity, VS lived modestly and shunned privileges that came with office.

Final Days and Death at 101

Achuthanandan was admitted to SUT Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, on 23 June 2025, after a cardiac arrest. Despite intensive treatment, he passed away on 21 July 2025, aged 101. His cremation will be held on 23rd July and lakhs will be attended — from political colleagues to common citizens.

Conclusion: The Life of a Relentless Revolutionary

Velikkakathu Sankaran Achuthanandan was not just a politician — he was a movement. He walked through fire — literally and metaphorically — and never let his convictions be diluted. He was a comrade of the people, a thorn for the corrupt, and a torchbearer of probity in public life.

He lived not to build empires, but to reclaim justice, to protect land, to elevate the poor, and to restore values in governance. His passing is not merely the end of a life; it is the sunset of a century-old legacy of tireless struggle.

In today’s world, where political compromise is the norm, V.S. Achuthanandan reminds us that one can live a life of principle, purpose, and people-first politics — and still win.

“Samaram Thanne Jeevitham” – For V.S., struggle was not a phase; it was life itself.
– A tribute from a AIMA.

Gokulam Kerala FC: The Soul of Kerala Football

Foundation and Growth

Founded in January 2017 by the Sree Gokulam Group, Gokulam Kerala FC was born out of a vision to revive Kerala’s lost legacy in Indian football. The club is based in Kozhikode (Calicut), the heartland of Kerala football. It quickly rose to prominence, not just as a competitive team in the I-League, but as a cultural symbol.

In just a few years, GKFC evolved from a promising entrant to a title-winning force in Indian football—an achievement very few clubs have matched in such a short timeframe.

Historic Achievements

  • 2019 Durand Cup Champions: GKFC made history by winning India’s oldest and most prestigious tournament, defeating Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan in the final.
  • Back-to-Back I-League Champions (2020–21 & 2021–22): First Kerala club to win the I-League and the only club in I-League history to defend the title.
  • AFC Cup Qualification (2022): Gokulam Kerala became the first team from Kerala to play in the AFC Cup, achieving a stunning 4–2 victory over ATK Mohun Bagan in their debut continental match.
  • 2023–24 I-League: Finished third, once again showcasing their consistency among the country’s top football clubs.

Structure and Teams

Gokulam Kerala FC is one of the few clubs in India with a complete football ecosystem, comprising:

  • Men’s First Team: Competes in the I-League, known for combining international experience with young Indian talent.
  • Women’s Team: A powerhouse in the Indian Women’s League, Gokulam Kerala Women’s FC has won multiple national titles, producing several players for the Indian national team.
  • GKFC Reserves: Competes in the Kerala Premier League (KPL), providing exposure and a transition platform for youth players.
  • Youth Academy and Grassroots Program: Operates a structured development pipeline with U13, U15, U17, and U21 teams. The academy scouts talent across Kerala, particularly from remote and underprivileged regions, and offers professional training, accommodation, education, and mentoring.

Philosophy: Football for Empowerment

Gokulam Kerala FC functions on the core belief that football can transform lives. This is evident in:

  • Scholarships for young talents
  • Training and employment for local youth
  • Inclusivity through its women’s team
  • Community engagement through football clinics and workshops

The club has given several local players—like Jithin M.S., Salman K., and Emil Benny—a national platform, while also nurturing international talents who contribute to the team’s competitive edge.

Fanbase and Cultural Identity

Gokulam Kerala FC is deeply rooted in the cultural and emotional fabric of Malabar:

  • Known as “The Malabarians”, the club’s logo features Theyyam, a vibrant ritual art form native to North Kerala.
  • Home matches are held at the EMS Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode, which has hosted record-breaking crowds, particularly during I-League title runs.
  • Their fan clubs—GKFC Battalia and GKFC Ultras—are among the most passionate in the country. Their organized chants, vibrant tifos, and community activities give GKFC one of the most authentic football cultures in India.

Media Presence and Commercial Appeal

  • Gokulam Kerala FC maintains a strong digital presence, with engaging content across Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter, aimed at attracting younger fans.
  • The club enjoys loyal sponsors, growing merchandise sales, and rising TV viewership—demonstrating its commercial potential in the Indian football market.
  • It has also begun collaborations with international clubs for exchange programs and coaching development.

Vision for the Future

Shri V.C. Praveen has repeatedly stated that his vision is to see a club from Kerala playing in the Indian Super League (ISL). While GKFC has not yet entered the ISL due to structural barriers, its growing fanbase, professional management, and footballing merit make it a strong candidate for future expansion.

Plans ahead include:

  • Upgrading infrastructure, including training facilities and stadium capacity
  • Establishing a permanent football academy campus
  • International scouting and pre-season exposure tours
  • Continued dominance in national women’s football

Mother – Daughters Trios in AIMA Family: A Symphony of Art, Dedication, and Legacy.

Introduction: A Rare Trio of Talent and Tradition

In the All India Malayalee Association (AIMA) family, the legacy of culture and creativity often finds its finest expression through families that pass down values across generations. One such inspiring example is the artistic trio of Mrs. Sasikala Sankaranarayanan and her daughters Dr. S. Rakendu and Mrs. Krishnendu. Rooted in Kerala’s rich cultural heritage and flourishing in Goa’s vibrant community, this family’s contribution to classical music, dance, and women’s empowerment is as harmonious as it is impactful.

Sasikala Sankaranarayanan: The Visionary Matriarch

A woman of multifaceted brilliance, Mrs. Sasikala Sankaranarayanan is a luminary in the realm of Indian classical arts. As the founder of Naadamadhuri School of Music and Dance in Goa, she has dedicated her life to nurturing cultural roots in the hearts of nearly 200 students. Her journey as a performer and choreographer is complemented by her long-standing roles as an announcer on All India Radio, Kochi, and a presenter on Doordarshan.

Her voice and presence have also graced Malayalam private channels as a newsreader, bringing stories and songs to life for countless viewers. As a strong advocate for women in the creative arts, she serves as a coordinator for All India Creative Women, a platform for promoting women’s empowerment through culture. Currently serving as the Women’s Wing Convenor of AIMA Goa, Sasikala continues to be an irreplaceable force in the social and cultural fabric of the community.

Her belief in art as a lifelong journey is deeply supported by her husband, Shri Sankaranarayanan, whose steadfast support has been the foundation of her work and that of her daughters.

Dr. S Rakendu: The Dancing Doctor

Dr. S Rakendu, the elder daughter of Sasikala, epitomizes the seamless balance between science and art. A classical dance artist and vocalist, she began her training at the tender age of four, mastering forms like Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, and Kerala Nadanam. Today, she shares her expertise with over 200 students at the Naadamadhuri School, carrying forward her mother’s vision.

In parallel with her artistic career, Dr. Rakendu pursued academics with equal vigor—earning a Master’s degree in Dental Surgery. She currently practices as a consultant at a multi-specialty hospital in Vasco, Goa. Her life reflects discipline, dedication, and harmony between intellect and creativity.

Rakendu is married to Surya K. Nambiar, who is remembered for his melodious performances on the musical reality show ‘Idea Star Singer’ (Asianet, 2004). Their daughter now grows up in an environment filled with music, rhythm, and cultural pride.

Mrs. Krishnendu: Engineering Talent and Emotion

The younger daughter, Mrs. Krishnendu, blends engineering precision with musical finesse. Like her elder sister, she too began her artistic journey at the age of four, training rigorously in classical music and dance. Her voice has brought her recognition at both national and state-level competitions, where she won awards that remain dear to her heart.

Currently, she serves as a Design Engineer in a leading MNC in Goa, proving that passion and profession can go hand in hand. She plays an active role at Naadamadhuri, particularly in the music wing, where she teaches young learners with immense devotion.

Krishnendu’s calm demeanor, technical brilliance, and creative sensitivity make her a role model for aspiring artists and professionals alike.

AIMA and Cultural Empowerment: The Goa Chapter

In the context of AIMA, this mother-daughters trio signifies much more than a family legacy. It is a living example of Malayalee cultural empowerment outside Kerala, particularly in a vibrant state like Goa. The Naadamadhuri institution is not just a cultural hub but also a social platform for nurturing confidence, community engagement, and holistic development in children.

As Lady Convenor of AIMA Goa, Sasikala connects the diaspora with its roots, while her daughters ensure that the future of classical arts is not only preserved but modernized to remain relevant and inspirational.

Conclusion: A Harmonious Legacy of Love, Art, and Empowerment

The story of Mrs. Sasikala Sankaranarayanan, Dr. S Rakendu, and Mrs. Krishnendu is more than an artistic journey—it is a testament to the power of shared dreams, generational wisdom, and cultural continuity. Supported unwaveringly by Shri Sankaranarayanan, this family stands as a glowing example of how one household can light up hundreds of others through the transformative magic of music and dance.

Their presence in the AIMA family is a celebration of what is possible when tradition, talent, and tenacity come together. As Goa dances to the rhythms of Naadamadhuri, the rest of the nation watches in admiration—grateful for a family that sings, dances, heals, and inspires.

Register Now: NAMMUDE PRATIBHA (നമ്മുടെ പ്രതിഭ) – A National Talent Database Initiative of AIMA Youth Wing.

Introduction: A National Platform for Cultural Talent Discovery

The All India Malayalee Association (AIMA), a leading national organization for the Malayalee diaspora, has officially launched a groundbreaking cultural initiative titled “Nammude Pratibha (നമ്മുടെ പ്രതിഭ)”. Approved by the National General Council in its recent meeting held on 13th July 2025 at Kozhikode, this initiative is spearheaded by the AIMA Youth Wing to identify, document, and showcase the immense artistic talent among Malayalees across India.

“Nammude Pratibha” is more than a project—it is a movement to preserve, celebrate, and promote the artistic and cultural excellence of the Malayalee community residing outside Kerala. This initiative creates a structured platform for individuals to display their skills and gain national-level recognition through the AIMA network.

The Vision Behind Nammude Pratibha

The central idea of this initiative is to build a national-level database of cultural and artistic talents among Malayalees living in different states. For decades, many brilliant artists—especially in the diaspora—have remained unsung heroes due to lack of opportunity and exposure. Nammude Pratibha aims to correct this by offering a visible and dynamic platform where these talents can be discovered, encouraged, and nurtured.

This is also a vital step towards cultural preservation, ensuring that the traditional and contemporary art forms practiced by Malayalees are documented and passed on to future generations.

Objectives of the Initiative

The key objectives of “Nammude Pratibha” are as follows:

  • To Create a Centralized Talent Database: Documenting and preserving details of Malayalee artists across India, including their skills and performance samples.
  • To Provide Recognition and Visibility: Offering a platform where talents from various categories and age groups can gain national-level exposure.
  • To Facilitate Participation in Events and Collaborations: Identifying deserving individuals to perform at AIMA’s state, zonal, and national events, including festivals, competitions, and cultural exchanges.
  • To Promote Cultural Heritage: Encouraging younger generations to embrace and preserve our traditional art forms while also innovating new expressions of culture.

Why This Initiative is Important

The “Nammude Pratibha” initiative addresses a long-standing gap in the representation of Malayalee artists residing outside Kerala. Many of these individuals have had limited access to mainstream platforms to express their artistic talents.

This initiative matters because:

  • It offers visibility to hidden talents among the diaspora.
  • It ensures that art and culture are preserved and promoted even in non-native regions.
  • It helps build a national network of artists, strengthening the bonds within the Malayalee community through cultural exchange and appreciation.
  • It opens the door for opportunities in cinema, OTT platforms, and public events, beyond AIMA’s immediate network.

How the Initiative Works

The registration and screening process for Nammude Pratibha is simple, transparent, and inclusive. Here is how the process works:

  1. Registration: Interested participants fill out a form through the official AIMA online portal. They are required to submit basic personal details and upload samples of their talent (such as video, audio, or photographs).
  2. Categorization: Submissions are categorized into various forms like dance, music, mimicry, poetry, acting, instrumental performance, and more.
  3. Review Process: Each entry is reviewed by cultural coordinators from AIMA’s respective state or regional chapters.
  4. Showcasing: Selected talents, with their consent, will be featured on AIMA’s social media platforms, websites, and cultural events held at local, state, and national levels.

Who Can Register

The initiative is open to all Malayalees living in India, regardless of age, who possess artistic or cultural talents. Categories include, but are not limited to:

  • Dancers (Classical, Folk, Cinematic, Contemporary)
  • Singers (Carnatic, Light Music, Film Songs)
  • Instrumental Musicians
  • Poets and Writers
  • Theater Artists and Actors
  • Mimicry Artists, Magicians, and Performers in other unique art forms

Whether you are a child prodigy, a college performer, or a senior artist with decades of experience, you are welcome to join.

Benefits of Participation

Participants who register and are selected through the initiative can expect several key benefits:

  • National-Level Exposure: Recognition as part of a national cultural platform hosted by AIMA.
  • Performance Opportunities: Invitations to perform at AIMA’s prestigious cultural programs, competitions, and celebrations.
  • Cultural Exchange: Opportunities to interact with fellow artists from other states, sharing traditions and ideas.
  • Awards and Certificates: Eligible artists may be honored through AIMA’s recognition programs and annual awards.
  • Media and Entertainment Opportunities: Exceptional talents may also get opportunities to be noticed by professionals from cinema, OTT platforms, and mainstream cultural organizations.

Role of AIMA in Implementation

The All India Malayalee Association (AIMA) plays a pivotal role in making this initiative successful. Its responsibilities include:

  • Promoting the initiative at local levels through schools, colleges, and partner associations.
  • Coordinating the collection and review of entries from each region.
  • Organizing regular screening sessions and cultural meets.
  • Facilitating the selection and presentation of talents in national showcases.
  • Maintaining a high-quality, accessible database for cultural reference and future planning.

Future Vision – 2026 and Beyond

Looking ahead, AIMA envisions several advancements based on the foundation of “Nammude Pratibha”:

  • Hosting National Talent Search Events at the state, zonal, and national levels.
  • Instituting an annual Malayalee Cultural Star Awards to honor top-performing artists.
  • Developing a dedicated mobile application and interactive website to house the talent database and event updates.
  • Creating a digital talent map and archive for reference, research, and legacy-building.

This initiative will continue to evolve, ensuring that the contributions of Malayalee artists remain vibrant, celebrated, and accessible to all.
