Thejomaya Home: Empowering Dreams through ‘Uyare’ with Support from AIMA Kerala

HLFPPT – A Legacy of Health and Social Empowerment

Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT), a social enterprise of HLL Lifecare Limited under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, has been a transformative force in health and social development across the country. With a national presence and over 1,500 committed professionals, HLFPPT has executed numerous initiatives to uplift marginalized communities. One such impactful initiative is Thejomaya Aftercare Home, located in Arakkunnam, Ernakulam, Kerala.

Thejomaya – A Sanctuary of Hope for Survivors

Launched in 2020 in collaboration with the Women and Child Development Department under the Nirbhaya initiative, Thejomaya Home is a purpose-built aftercare facility designed to support young women between the ages of 16 and 20 who are transitioning out of institutional care. These girls, many of whom are survivors of trauma and adversity, are welcomed into a nurturing environment focused on healing, growth, and independence.

To date, Thejomaya has supported and trained over 100 residents between the ages of 16 and 21. Equipped with life skills, vocational training, and emotional support, these young women are gradually stepping into a life of dignity, confidence, and self-reliance.

Vocational Training – Learning to Rise through ‘Uyare’

One of the core components of the Thejomaya model is its robust vocational training program. Residents are offered skill-building opportunities in stitching, baking, and beautician services, enabling them to not only become financially independent but also creatively fulfilled. The training is designed to be both therapeutic and practical, allowing the girls to rediscover their strengths and build sustainable careers.

These efforts culminate in a meaningful brand – ‘Uyare’, which translates to “to rise.” The brand was inaugurated with the support of Honourable Minister Veena George, Kerala’s Minister for Health and Woman & Child Development. Through Uyare, residents proudly sell their handmade products and services across various platforms including social media, local markets, and special exhibitions.

Beyond Skills – Building Lives with Care and Community

At Thejomaya, each resident receives personalized care, career guidance, and professional mentoring. The daily schedule includes structured routines, participation in community engagements, and entrepreneurial training. This holistic approach fosters not only skill development but also emotional strength, leadership, and resilience. The girls not only learn how to build a business but also support and uplift one another.

National Impact – Powered by a Passionate Team

The success of Thejomaya and the Uyare initiative is powered by passionate leadership. Our National Women’s Wing Vice Chairperson, Smt. Deepthi Nair, leads the national Skill Development Team under HLFPPT. With a strong network of over 350 team members spread across India, this team is creating waves of empowerment, skill training, and social reintegration for countless young women in need.

Community Support in Action: AIMA Kerala’s Meaningful Contribution

In a heartening gesture of solidarity and support, AIMA Kerala has extended its backing to Thejomaya by purchasing gift items produced by the residents under the Uyare brand. These items will be distributed at the upcoming NEC/NGC Meeting in Kozhikode, directly supporting the sustainable income of the residents.
Thank you, AIMA, for your thoughtful and impactful decision—such steps not only create economic opportunity but also reaffirm the dignity and value of each young woman’s efforts.

Conclusion: A Symbol of Rising Together

Thejomaya Home is more than a shelter—it is a movement. It represents a collective vision where survivors are not defined by their past but empowered by their future. Through initiatives like Uyare and the dedication of HLFPPT, young women are reclaiming their dreams, dignity, and independence. Thejomaya stands as a shining beacon of what compassionate care, vocational opportunity, and structured support can accomplish.

As these young lives rise, they carry with them the spirit of transformation, inspiring us all to believe in the power of resilience, sisterhood, and purpose.

Honoring Academic Brilliance: Paul Diclause Memorial Educational Excellence Award

Following the AGM, the spotlight will turn toward recognizing young academic talent through the Paul Diclause Memorial Educational Excellence Award Presentation.

This prestigious award, established in collaboration with the family of Late Paul Diclause, pays tribute to an inspiring figure known for his unwavering commitment to education and empowerment. The award is not only a tribute to his memory but a reaffirmation of AIMA’s broader mission—to identify, encourage, and celebrate academic excellence among young Malayalees across India.

This year, the award will be presented by Shri Sankara Raman, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Jaipur, adding great honor to the occasion.
