The Civil Rights and Social Justice Society (CRSJS) has been steadfastly serving the cause of human rights and social justice since 1997. True to its motto, “Serving the Right Cause – Human Rights”, the Society has consistently recognized individuals whose lives exemplify courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment to justice. As part of this noble tradition, CRSJS will confer the Dr. S. Balaraman Human Rights Defender Award 2025 on an outstanding human rights advocate and social reformer, Adv. Dr. K. C. George, Secretary & Chief Executive Officer of Deepalaya and a proud member of AIMA Uttar Pradesh.

Award Ceremony Details
The prestigious award ceremony will be held on 10th December 2025 at 4:00 PM at Gandhi Bhawan, Thycaud, Trivandrum, Kerala. Adv. Dr. K. C. George: A Distinguished Leader in Social Work
Adv. Dr. K. C. George is widely respected as a compassionate social worker, human rights defender, educator, and administrator. Guided by his lifelong motto, “Helping some to help themselves,” Dr. George has devoted his life to empowering vulnerable individuals and communities, especially women and children. His work reflects a rare blend of ground-level engagement, institutional leadership, and policy-driven impact.
Strong Academic Foundation
Dr. George’s commitment to social justice is reinforced by a robust academic background. He holds a Postgraduate degree in Social Work, followed by LLB and a PhD in Social Work. This combination of social science, legal knowledge, and research has enabled him to approach social issues with both empathy and professional rigor.

Three Decades of Service to the Government of India
From 1992 to 2022, Dr. K. C. George served under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, for nearly three decades. During this period, he worked in various capacities and ultimately retired as Joint Director. His tenure was marked by his direct involvement in designing, implementing, and monitoring programs aimed at protecting women and children across the country.
After his government service, Dr. George continued his mission by serving as Executive Director with the Kailash Sathyarthi Children’s Foundation and India Child Protection, further strengthening national efforts against child exploitation and abuse.

Architect of Transformational Flagship Programs
Adv. Dr. K. C. George has been instrumental in conceptualizing several flagship initiatives that have left a lasting impact:
- Hausla:
A pioneering program that provides children with special needs a platform to showcase their talents on par with other children in schools, promoting inclusion and self-confidence. - One Stop Centre:
A comprehensive support system offering safety, legal aid, counselling, and medical assistance to aggrieved women under one roof. - Beti Bachao Beti Padhao:
Launched in 2015, this landmark national campaign promotes gender equality and girls’ education, addressing deeply rooted social challenges.
Supreme Court Recognition for Child Welfare Intervention
In April 2024, Dr. George submitted a detailed and sensitive report on the status of the children of Late Shri Atique Ahmed after his death. His intervention, driven purely by concern for the welfare of the children, received recognition from the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, highlighting his credibility, integrity, and selfless service.

Justice Balakrishna Award for Humanity
In addition to the Dr. S. Balaraman Award, Dr. George will also be honoured with the Justice Balakrishna Award for Humanity by CSR – a forum of retired judges in Kerala, on 10th December 2025. This recognition further underlines his exceptional contributions to human rights and humanitarian service.
ANMOL: A National Model for Survivor Support
One of Dr. George’s most impactful initiatives is ANMOL, a peer-to-peer support group model for survivors of child sexual abuse. Today, ANMOL has been adopted by more than 202 NGOs across 416 districts in India, making it one of the most widely accepted survivor support frameworks in the country.
Academic Leadership and Capacity Building
Dr. George also served as Principal of an institution offering an Advanced Diploma in Child Guidance Counselling for five years. Through this role, he mentored and trained professionals who continue to serve in counselling, rehabilitation, and child protection sectors nationwide.

Philanthropy Rooted in Empathy and Action
Beyond his institutional roles, Dr. George has personally led and supported several humanitarian initiatives:
- Distress Management Collective (India):
Supported over 4,000 families and helped save more than 200 lives through the distribution of oxygen concentrators during critical times. - Minnie Memorial Charitable Trust:
Established in memory of his late wife, this trust continues to provide financial assistance to cancer patients, transforming personal loss into sustained social support.
Significantly, Dr. George has donated the entire amount of several awards he received for the welfare of children residing in an Ashram in Rajasthan, reinforcing his belief that recognition must translate into service.
