Our esteemed member, Dr. P.B. Sumesh Gurukkal, AIMA Uttar Pradesh, along with his Sathvam Kalari Team, had the prestigious opportunity to perform a demonstration programme at Bharat Mandapam as part of the Central Government’s “Har Ghar Tiranga” initiative.
This grand event was held in the presence of our Hon’ble Chief Minister, Central Ministers, Indian Army, CISF, and Commander Officers.
It was not just a performance, but a moment of pride, cultural representation, and national unity.


The Artist Behind the Performance – Dr. P.B. Sumesh

From Thrissur to Noida – A Journey of Art & Discipline

Born in Thrissur, Kerala, and now settled in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Sumesh P.B is a theatre artist, drama educator, and Kalarippayattu maestro. With a Ph.D. in Theatre from Pondicherry University, his career reflects a blend of performing arts and martial traditions.

Master of Multiple Art Forms

Dr. Sumesh has trained extensively in:

  • Kalarippayattu – Kerala’s ancient martial art.
  • Karate-do, Kobudo, Chilambam, Capoeira, Kickboxing.
  • Classical and folk theatre forms such as Kathakali, Therukoothu, Koodiyattam, and Tamil Nadu’s Devarattam.

He is the Founder of Sathvam Kalari Sangam and currently serves as Vice President of the Indian Kalarippayattu Federation.

Educator at Heart

Dr. Sumesh has taught at institutions like Step by Step School, Noida, National School of Drama (NSD), Jamia Millia Islamia, and Pondicherry University. He is passionate about using theatre and martial arts to develop discipline, creativity, and confidence in students, including those with special educational needs.

Spreading Kalarippayattu Across India

Through workshops, performances, and training camps, he has introduced Kalarippayattu to schools, universities, cultural organizations, and theatre groups across the country, keeping this heritage alive for future generations.

  • Ananta Award (2017), Matri Award (2019), Prabhakar Award (2022) for his contributions to education and culture.
  • Honoured by cultural and community organizations, including All India Malayalee Association.
  • Technical Official for Kalarippayattu in Khelo India Youth Games and National Games.
